Dan the "r" Man
Dan Foose suffers from Esophageal Reflux, Chronic Sinusitis, Multrivalve Prolapse and Leg Edema. He also has severe Scoliosis, which causes him to have a lowercase ‘r’ posture. He has a hard time hearing, and his speech patters are simple and difficult to understand. Dan’s intellectual level is that of a young child. But with the help of Becky Weemer, his personal caretaker and friend, Dan’s needs are met on a day-to-day basis. Despite his health conditions, his inner strength is what makes him such a remarkable man.

Gussie
Augusta Mae 'Gussie' Barnhart lived behind the fairgrounds for more than 30 years. A flood forced her to abandon her mobile home and move elsewhere. Having little money and few options, she turned to the members of the Athens County Fair Board for help. They suggested she purchase a mobile home, with help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and place it next to the Race Horse Barn. That way, Gussie could become a permanent resident of the fairgrounds, and would not be required to pay rent. She could also be close to the horses she trains and cares for a living.
